Night Jobs

I really enjoyed having a job and working, the income was a nice benefit as well. During my last two years of High school I worked for several companies at night. I got a job for a company that did anodizing of aluminum parts, and plating of metal parts they did things like window and door frames and other types of accessory metal needing to be coated or etched. Here I was mostly just responsible for racking and un-racking the metal parts for the process. Un-racking we had to be careful since this was a final finish; we would wrap everything in protective paper before boxing or palletizing. Another very interesting process, I would have loved to learn more but it was just a temp job that ended in a month or so.

First Factory Job

My first actual factory work was a summer job at a generator mfg company,
www.gillettegenerators.com It was my first full 40 hour a week experience. Since it was summer I could work in the day time and enjoyed again learning how these systems were made and operated. We would assemble the rotors and stators, run the winding machine, hot dip the items that needed it, I learned to weld here and did some painting of the finished units. It was a very rewarding job, I enjoyed the income and especially soaked up all the knowledge I was getting. When school started back up I had to quit the job, they did not have any late shift work, I would have loved to keep working there.

More experiences

Since my job at the service station was short lived, I had to find another job to get spending money. My neighbor had a business, and was a bit of a local entrepreneur. His business was doing refrigeration work. He hired me to help him from time to time with jobs he worked on, mostly walk in coolers and refrigerators. He also rebuilt ice makers and I enjoyed helping with that and learning the mechanics of the systems. He eventually got involved in several new businesses’ including doing blow in insulation for houses and business’s. He also owned several rental properties that I would clean and paint as needed. I learned a lot of skills while working with this gentleman and his businesses. I worked with him for a couple of years off and on.

2nd Job

I got my first hourly paid job, when I was 14, there was a gas station on Napanee street, the owner hired me to come in and clean the service bays, The plans were that if I did a good job he would have other work for me and eventually train me on working on the cars there. That was very intriguing me I had already been working a cars a little and liked the idea of learning from a professional mechanic. I went in with buckets and rags and cleaned many years of grease and soot off the walls of the garage. It really looked impressive and the owner was very pleased with my work. Unfortunately the owners health was not well and he closed the station down shortly after this due to those health issues.

My First Job

My first Job, as with many my age was a local paper route in Elkhart Indiana. I delivered the South bend Tribune http://www.southbendtribune.com/ to houses in my neighborhood. This was a fun job, on Sundays I would get up at 2:00 or 3:00 am to be downtown and get my papers to have delivered by 6:00am. It was a great feeling of responsibility mixed with freedom, that just made me feel exhilireted. I worked this job for several years na doften used some of my money to help my mother buy groceries, it was a hard time in our life. I learned a lot of discipline and people skills from this job.
